Planning ... 1 Day - Drumheller
(Dinosaur Trail)
Drumheller
Sightseeing Tour Highlights
Let's
head out for the day to one of the most intriguing and spectacular
areas in Alberta and perhaps one of the most fascinating in the
world. A visit to Calgary and the Canadian Rockies is not complete
without a trip to the Drumheller region and a visit to the spectacular
Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology. Spend time exploring the
many historic sites as we travel through the "Alberta Badlands".
We follow the Dinosaur Trail, a network of roads that will take
us around the Red Deer River Valley to uncover the man-made and
natural wonders of Alberta's Badlands. As we approach Drumheller
the rolling hills suddenly drop off hundreds of feet into mysterious
winding canyons. Strange land formations rise up on all sides;
sculpted by wind and water into hauntingly beautiful shapes sunbathed
in terra cotta, bronze and amber. A trip to Dinosaur Provincial
Park is also a 75 million-year foray back in time. The result
is an eerie landscape that looks like another world! Today, after
a century of excavations over 150 complete dinosaur skeletons
have been discovered and are on display.
