Kick the City off your boots and say howdy
to the glorious cowboy adventure awaiting you at Rafter Six
(6) Ranch! Your event can be as rustic or luxurious as you like.
In 1954 Marilyn Monroe needed a vehicle
for her Screen debut. River of No Return, was the feature film
chosen and Robert Mitchum was signed to be her male co-star. Rafter
Six Ranch was one of the locations for this classic western movie.
Since then dozens of feature films, documentaries, and television
commercials have been shot at Rafter Six. Escape to the past for
a truly western experience and adventure.
Trail Rides
1 or 2 hour trail rides, a half day ride,
and an all day ride are available for all levels of riders. For
the experienced rider we offer an Adventure Ride. And if you're
up for the thrill - there's even an overnight trail ride to feed

Artists, princes and outlaws. All have called
the Bar U Ranch home at various times in the ranch's colorful
history. Famed western artist Charlie Russell; the Prince of Wales,
who later as Edward the VIII, abdicated the English throne to
marry commoner Wallace Warfield Simpson; and Harry Longabaugh
(better known as the Sundance Kid) were among the famous (and
sometimes infamous) characters who graced the ranch's formidable
space at various times.
Today, visitors from around the world are
welcomed at the Bar U Ranch (a national historic site of Canada,
and a key location on the Cowboy Trail) and are quickly immersed
in the living, breathing and very authentic presentation of ranching
culture and history found on the ranch. Nestled in Alberta's foothills
in the shadow of the spectacular Rockies. The Bar U Ranch National
Historic Site is just 1 and 1/2 hours southwest of Calgary.
The Bar U Ranch Roadhouse Restaurant
welcomes you with the aroma of fresh baked goods. The menu offers
homemade ranch meals such as cow camp stew, homemade soup, and
sourdough biscuits and buffalo burgers.
In keeping with the themes and eras represented
on the ranch, Pekisko Creek General Store stocks various items
by local artists and crafts people. Quality items include home
preserves, sewing, knitting, woodwork, handmade soap, candles
and Friends of the Bar U promotional items.
